I was recently contacted by someone claiming to be WordPress. Subject line: michaelvitaly.com verify your contact information… From this url/address: (email visible only to moderators and staff)

    I think it’s a scam. What should I do?

    The email starts this way,

    Greetings!

ICANN, the organization responsible for the stability of the Internet, requires that each domain name registrant be given the opportunity to correct any inaccurate contact data (WHOIS data) associated with a domain name registration. Our records for your domain are as follows:

Hi there, I’ve tagged this thread for Staff attention.

The wording is a little strange but, regardless, each year a domain owner must verify or update the contact details on their domain registration with ICANN, so please wait for Staff to reply before taking any action. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

  • Hi there,

That email comes from our domain provider. If you’ve received that email it means you own a domain with us. That is a mandatory email that our domain provider must send out every year for all domains registered with us to confirm that your domain registration contact information is up to date.

I don’t see any domains in this WordPress.com account. However, michaelvitaly.com, is registered with us to another WordPress.com username.
