False site stats

    I have a strong suspicion that my site stats are being falsified. Ever since I advised admin that I would be stopping my subscription, my stats have increased significantly.

    What make it really strange is that I get several hits every day from American Samoa, with a population of less than 60,000! These ‘people’ only ever look at the blog intro as well. Very strange!

    The help desk deny that there is any manipulation of the figures.

    Hi there,

    It’s not possible for your site stats to be falsified. A view on a WordPress.com site is only recorded if the site is loaded inside an active and focused browser window, in other words, only when your site actually becomes visible on someone’s computer screen, and when a post on your site is loaded in the WordPress.com Reader.

    Bot views are not counted, paid traffic that works by loading your site in a hidden frame is not counted, and there is absolutely no way that anyone without direct access to our stats database can manually manipulate your stats.
