Featuring latest posts with featured image on home page

Hi There,
Been experimenting on my own and I think my layout is now in an absolute mess! I have been trying to add a widget? featuring latest posts on my home page but cant seem to find the right way to do it or am I not allowed to do that at all?
I’m currently using the Canape theme but am happy to change to something which will allow me to do a feature of latest posts should Canape not have the capability to do so.

I see that you now have the Dyad theme activated. The theme is set to display your latest posts on the homepage. However, no posts are presently published.
I have been trying to add a widget?

Thanks for replying! yes, I got so fed up because the posts aren’t showing up, even for Dyad! I’m just wondering now if I’ve actually deleted something I shouldn’t have.

The site https://hurricanekitchen.wordpress.com/ is set up with a welcome page on the front page, and the latest posts displayed on the “Blog” page. This is because during the process of creating the site, you chose to display a welcome page on the front page. To display instead your latest posts on the front page, go to Customize > Static Front Page > Your front page displays, and choose “Your latest posts.”
