Flood of emails from WordPress
-
I am receiving a flood of emails from wordpress@_______ (many different websites) and emails thanking me for registering on their websites. Can anyone help me in determining what is going on with my email account and how I can stop receiving these hundreds of emails? It may be related to my website that is currently in construction and the client portal access. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi there,
If an email is from us it will always be from @wordpress.com. The source of an email is indicated by the domain after the @, and what comes before the @ is irrelevant in this case.
So those emails are not coming from us, but from random sites using the open source WordPress.org software. I’ve seen this from time to time where people use email addresses they obtained somewhere to sign up for user accounts on multiple WordPress websites, most likely to try and gain unauthorised access to those sites. They’re likely bombarding those sites with multiple subscriptions using more email addresses than just yours.
Unfortunately there is no way to stop that short of changing your email address. As you said, the emails are coming from different domains, and most likely they’re even at different hosting providers, so there’s no one person or company you can contact for help to block whoever is doing this.
My suggestion is to set up a filter in your email account to automatically delete any emails coming in with that subject line. That way at least you won’t have your inbox flooded by these notifications.
