Follow Buttons to sign up for email notification of new blogs

I need help with my WP Follow button. Non WP users get a 401 message. This is not good.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have placed the WP “Follow” button on my sidebar. Twice, non WP bloggers who are also would-be followers have complained they get asked for a password and then a 401 message. This is confusing and causes me great concern. It is NOT OKAY to just have a tiny “Follow” button at the end for non-WP users.

    Hi there,

The WordPress.com follow button is specifically for WordPress.com users to follow your blog. If someone is logged in to a WordPress.com account, clicking that button will make them follow your blog automatically. Otherwise, they’ll be asked to log in to a WordPress.com account.

If you’d like a way for non-WordPress.com users to follow your blog, I’d recommend adding a Follow Blog Widget. That adds a form to your sidebar so visitors can subscribe to your blog via email from there.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
