Followers Not Receiving Email Notices

  My wife has signed up twice to receive new post notifications via email. Each time she gets the pop-up window saying that a confirmation email has been sent. And yet nothing arrives in her in-box. She uses gmail, by they way.

  Also, the Follow Blog widget indicates 8 followers, but the dashboard shows only 3. Please help me understand how that works too. Thanks.
