Footer menus and sub items

I’ve added sub items to both my primary menu and my footer menu. The ones in the primary menu work but the ones in the footer menu don’t show up on the page. In the footer menu, I’ve used a dummy link (with # in the url field) as the parent but I’ve already ascertained that this is not causing the problem. I’m wondering if it just isn’t possible to have sub items in a footer menu. Anyone know?

  • Hi there,

As a rule footer menus don’t support submenus, no, and that is also the case with the Brompton theme you’re using. Footer menus are typically used for stuff like linking to terms of use and privacy policies on a site, rather than for comprehensive navigation for the entire site.

I’m using the footer menu to link to social media. There are two separate YouTube channels that I want to put links to. It will looked odd to have them both showing in the footer, which is why I wanted to use sub menus. Any suggestions?

  • You’d have to show them side-by-side, or at different points in the menu in this case, as footer menus don’t support sub-menu items.
