for some reason archived page is setting itself as default page on mlscholar.com/courses

  when i go to my web address http://www.mlscholar.com/courses/ it only allows me to show the archived page even when i make a new page using the same url??? please help there isnt any way to get rid of this page

  You can’t give a page the same URL as a category. Or you change the permalink of your Page, or you rename that category.
