.fr Domain mapping/hosting problems

  • Unknown's avatar

In brief, I bought a .fr domain from Godaddy; WordPress.com recognized it as a valid domain; I used Godaddy to change the nameservers as instructed; and now, it doesn’t work. For the moment I’m using DNS masking, but I’d prefer to have unique urls for each post.

I’d like to know which of the two is possible/better:
    1. Buying hosting with Godaddy (which will allow the .fr domain to be mapped with wordpress? I’m really not sure what the problem is here, as hosting is not required for .com/many other domains)
    2. Manually transfer the blog to a wordpress.org account, and set it up through Godaddy.

This is probably not a problem with WordPress but with France itself, but I’d still like whatever help I can get.

    Merci,
    Joe

  • When you tried to map it, how long did you wait before giving up? It can take up to 72 hours before nameservers propagate through the internet.

I left it for 48 hours once, and at the moment I’m simply dns masking. The problem, I think, is that WordPress thinks the domain is expired.

  • I would encourage you to try the nameservers again without the masking/forwrding.
