Free domain name

  Hi,

  I am hesitating between choosing wordpress or cargocollective. I already bought my domain name with gandi.net
  But I see that if I choose a personnal plan with you I can have a 1 year free domain name. Bad luck for me I already paid for it. If I choose to make my website with you, can I postpone my one year free address ?

  Hi –

  This is a good question. If you transfer the domain, then what you’ve already paid for in domain registration will apply to your purchase. So, if you’ve paid for 2 years domain registration then transfer it to WordPress.com it would be extended out another year – and not expire for 3 years. Does that make sense?

  It’s worth noting that the domain has to be 60 days old in order to be eligible for a transfer.

  If it’s not that old yet, then you can map it to us with your personal plan purchase and transfer it later on.

  Hi,

  Thank you for your help. Just to be sure, I paid for one year already with my domain name provider. If I transfer it to wordpress, when I will have to renew it next year, wordpress will offer me one more year for free right?

  I bought it couple of days ago, if I map it now and transfer it later will it work also?

  Hi @sabotte, if/when you transfer here, one year is automatically added during the transfer. You’d just need to pay for it again when it’s up for renewal. And you’d be welcome to map the domain in the meantime. Hoping this helps!
