Free (non upgrade) way to backup site?

  Is there a free way to backup a wordpress site? When I do a search on that topic, everyone says to download the ‘free’ Updraft plugin, but plugins seem to only be available to paid plans of some kind. If I have that right, what is an alternative method to backing up a wordpress site? ..or, how to use Updraft with an unpaid plan?
