From .com to .org

Hello,
I’d like to get some information about switching from wordpress.com to wordpress.org. At the moment I have main domain supported by wordpress.com and are very interested to finding out what are my options for changing it to wordpress.org as I’m looking into purchasing new theme, which one has options for plugins and other .org benefits.
Is there is any extra cost for annual main domain payment after switching to wordpres.org?
Or maybe there is an option to keep wordpress.com and still maintain availability to have plugins along with my new theme (I’m about to purchase, don’t want to rush it, as I don’t know all my options as well as pros and cons)?I’m unprofessional in web hosting, theme developing or any other website related subjects. So individual response and advice will really help me.

No. Your domain registration fee will be the same.

In order to have plugins, you will need to set up a self hosted WordPress.org site.
