Full sized photos (not thumbnails) load
-
Hi
I have a blog on wordpress (hosted on wordpress servers – I have not downloaded or installed any version on WordPress locally).
One of my blog posts typically has lots of pictures as thumbnails.
When I view my post on the www using my old machine (XP, latest firefox or opera) everything is fine. The thumbnails load as thumbnails.
However, when I load the same page on my new Yoga2Pro (Y2P) machine, all the thumbnails load as expected then, when they have finished, they all download and display as the FULLSCALE (1600x1200pixel) pictures. What should be a 600KB page of thumbnails ends up being 20MB of traffic. The humungous size of the pictures also messes-up the flow of text and pictures.
I have tried (latest versions of) Firefox, Opera, Chrome and MSIE on the Y2P machine. Same result. It is also the same for numerous different pages on my blog and for a few other xxx.wordpress.com blogs I have tried.
I have googled the problem and the only useful result was a wordpress plug-in intended to refresh thumbnail sizes for people who have recently changed wordpress theme (which I haven’t). However, I assume that this only applies to people who are hosting their own content, as I can’t find a method to apply the plug-in when wordpress are doing the hosting/ASP.
Therefore, I assume it is something to do with win8 or the hi-def (3200x1800px) screen on the Y2P. Hi def screens have known problems with scaling on apps like Photoshop. Is this a similar thing? A page from my blog is here. Pictures should be 150px thumbnails.
TIA
edit: I just tried changing the theme from Coraline to Twenty Fourteen. The thumbnails stay small, but it still loads 21 MB of traffic (presumably the full-sizes pictures) in the background, instead of 1MB worth of thumbnails.

I tend to think this is a bug you may have found with your new computer. So while I will tag this for Staff input, it may not be something they can help with. Here’s what I see in Win7Pro on a PC.

In my opinion, uploading images larger than 1600 pixels, even 2400 pixels, wide is a waste of your free 3GB of storage space. It’s much better to resize and optimize your images prior to uploading them. This not only has the benefit of saving you space, it also preserves image clarity. The majority of your site visitors will not be viewing at the resolution you have, not to mention that the trend is towards mobile viewers where the screen size/resolution is much, much smaller.

Thanks for the reply and the referral. For completeness this is what I get on the hi-res machine (Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro).
I had to zoom out as far as possible on the browser, just to fit two “thumbnails” on the same page!
Y2P problem -
I’m afraid I cannot replicate this issue on either a mac or a windows 8 machine. Could there be an accessibility/visibility setting in windows 8 that could cause this? Have you double checked that you aren’t zooming in within the browser?
