Gallery block not selecting images

Hi, can anyone help. When I add a gallery block, i select the images I want to appear in it and press insert but instead of popping up on my post it diverts me to gallery editor and all my images ever used come up and i have to deselect them all and just keep the ones i chose. its really annoying and labour intensive. is there a fix for this?
