Gallery Descriptions Disappeared

I am new to WordPress, and had recently set up a gallery to display photos. I assigned titles and descriptions to each photo, and set up the gallery so that a visitor could click on photo to read the description. In recent weeks, the descriptions have disappeared and now when one clicks on a photo, a slideshow is displayed with the titles but no description (even though each photo has a saved description).

Is there any way to get the descriptions back? I would really appreciate any input! This is the page I am referring to: http://usedpianocenter.net/used-pianos-for-sale/

    Thanks so much!

This is a recent change WP imposed but will keep improving – see this thread:

At the moment you can see the attachment pages with the descriptions if you click “Permalink”, provided you selected “Attachment Page” instead of “Image File” when creating the gallery (you haven’t done that).

So first edit the page to change that gallery option: in the Visual editor, click on the rectangle that represents the gallery, select Link thumbnails to > Attachment Page, click Update Gallery Settings, click Update (page); or, faster, switch the editor to HTML and change the gallery shortcode to just this:
    [gallery]
You’ll also need to add a note informing visitors that they can see the descriptions if they click “Permalink” when viewing the slideshow – nobody will think of that without such a note.

Thanks so much for letting me know about this temporary solution and providing detailed instructions. It worked perfectly.

I was also glad to read more about the issue, and I look forward to the future improvements.

    All the best,
    Jenn

    You’re welcome.

By the way: since your page is wide, you can make the images larger if you wish, by increasing the default dimensions for thumbnails in Settings>Media.
