GoFundMe Widget will not work on WordPress.com Premium plan
-
I am preparing an NGO website to be hosted on WordPress.com under Premium plan. The organization behind this website is planning to setup GoFundMe donation account and embed in this website. However, it seems only Business plan and above will support GoFundMe widget and Premium plan doesn’t support it as per notice on GoFundMe website. Please see here https://support.gofundme.com/hc/en-us/articles/203604554-Adding-a-GoFundMe-Widget-to-a-Blog-or-Website.
Could you please explain why WordPress.com’s Premium plan will not support it? And any possible way to support GoFundMe wideget? Thanks.

Hi there,
To clarify, the code that GoFundMe has provided is intended for self-hosted websites, which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.
They did not write their code with WordPress.com in mind, which is why it is not compatible on most sites here. The exception is if our site is on “business hosting” under our business and ecommerce plans. The architecture of our business hosting allows advanced embed codes (such as the one GoFundMe provides) to function correctly, which is why this upgrade is required to use their code as-is.
However, one workaround you can consider without upgrading is to create a sidebar widget announcing your GoFundMe page, with a button to “donate” to your cause. This button can be linked to the page you have GoFundMe.com, where the rest of the transaction can be completed directly.
To do that you can use a standard text widget for your message text, followed by an image widget. In the image widget you can use a graphic that looks like a button (here is a free tool you can use to create a custom button)
Add the button graphic (created at the above site) to your image widget, and in the URL setting add your GoFundMe URL. That way when someone visits your site they will see a button in the sidebar to donate, and when they click it they will be taken to the page they can send in their donation safely and securely.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
