Going premium and domain names

I’m considering upgrading to ‘premium’ for the purposes of a simpler domain name: aoifeschatology.com. (Well, it can’t be that much simpler when one’s name begins with a tripthong … )
My question, please, is this. I’m assuming someone coming across a link to one of my articles at the older domain name (aoifeschatology.wordpress.com) will be forwarded to the new incarnation of the same article (now located at aoifeschatology.com).
Am I right in this assumption? It seems common sense: but I thought I should clarify before making the leap.

Yes. When your purchase domain mapping the .wordpress.com URLs wherever they are clicked on the internet will seamlessly redirect those who click them to the same content under the new domain URLs.

Thanks for the information — especially the advisory on patience. I’m in an awkward position right now where traffic is going to aoifeschatology.com, which isn’t up yet, and now aoifeschatology.wordpress.com auto-redirects. I can’t read any version of my blog right now. I restored ‘aoifeschatology.wordpress.com’ as the primary domain name, but now no one can access the blog. How can I fix this, please?

Sorry, I see at least ‘aoifeschatology.wordpress.org’ is back in operation. I’ll wait out the DNS registration — is the blog’s data relocated/transferred automatically? Sorry for the many questions.

Precision is critical when dealing with domain names. Note that aoifeschatology.wordpress.org does not exist.
It takes up to 72 hours for the DNS to settle down and everything to work normally. Blog data is not relocated at all, because with a new domain name you do not have a new web space: you just have a different way to approach it. It’s like adding a side door to a house. The house stays the same.
