Goodreads widget Author ID not working
-
I am attempting to add the Goodreads widget but receive the following message, “You need to enter your numeric user ID for the Goodreads Widget to work correctly.”
The Goodreads numeric user ID is my Goodreads Author ID 68367616 that has been verified by Goodreads support staff.
Please provide additional support on how I can add the Goodreads widget as it would seem that I have followed all necessary steps and complied with the widget instructions.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
The ID to use for the Goodreads widget is not your Author ID, but your User ID, which you can find in your profile, and should look something like
https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/…… < your user IDFor more detailed instructions, please see here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/goodreads-widget/Also this forum post, where the issue was discussed:

Thanks for your response but your suggestion does not work.
My user ID on Goodreads is 68367616 as per Goodreads support confirmation but this User ID does not work with the WordPress.com widget. I receive the following WordPress.com error message, “You need to enter your numeric user ID for the Goodreads Widget to work correctly.”
In addition:
My Goodreads author user ID information is displayed as:
https://www.goodreads.com/photo/author/8071273.Joanna_KafarowskiSo as per your instructions the Widget User ID should be 8071273 . If this user ID is entered into the Goodreads widget, an entirely different user’s book reviews appears, namely a reviewer called Isabelle Bishop. This is not me!
I am at a loss as to how to make this widget work as an author on Goodreads. Is this even possible?
Thanks

Hi Joanna,
I’m sorry that didn’t work.
For what I can see from the instructions, the widget doesn’t accept the Author ID, but I’m not sure why it doesn’t recognise your User ID.
I’ve tagged the thread for a member of staff, they probably know more about the issue :)

Hi there,
My user ID on Goodreads is 68367616 as per Goodreads support confirmation but this User ID does not work with the WordPress.com widget.
Can you please post the full link to your GoodReads user profile?
And can you please confirm if this is for the site, joannakafarowski.wordpress.com? I don’t see any GoodReads widget added to that site. If you’ve removed it again, please add it back so I can check it for you.

Thanks for the support.
Here is the link to my Goodreads user profile:
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/8071273.Joanna_KafarowskiI have also added the Goodreads profile to the bottom footer on my main page. I have used the User ID 8071273 but as I have mentioned previously this pulls a different user called Isabelle Bishop.
The other ID number, 68367616, seems to be my Author User ID and this returns an error.
Thanks

Please help! I’ve tried both 8071273 and 68367616 for (email visible only to moderators and staff) but neither work.
I’m getting rather desperate now about it now.
Can you just add the widget from your end as it doesn’t work when I do it?
Many thanks,
Joanna -
I’m not able to add it from my end either as the widget is not recognising the link. We’ve had a few reports about this, and it looks like something changed on GoodReads’s end in how they treat the profile links. We’re looking into whether we can make a change on our side to compensate for that, but for the moment there is no way to add your author profile to the widget.
I’ll let you know if there is any progress in fixing this.

Hi Terri –
There isn’t any news to share on this. Could you let me know your GoodReads author and profile IDs and which site you’re trying to add the widget on? I’ll take a look.

Hi Terri –
Can you share the work around here for other community members to use as well?

I have that problem too. I only find an ID, this
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7728865.Silvia_Cachia, and with that ID, a wrong set of books shows up, and not my name anywhere.I don’t find a user ID, I only find this other number
https://www.goodreads.com/user/5310282-silvia-cachia/followers
but WordPress tells me this,
You need to enter your numeric user ID for the Goodreads Widget to work correctly. Full instructions. Thanks for the help,

Hi, I’m finally setting up my WordPress website and unable to get the Goodreads widget to work correctly. As a matter of fact, if WordPress is still working on this, I recommend they offer us the ability to choose one of our custom named shelves in Goodreads. Until this matter is fixed, I’ll be removing the Goodreads widget – such a shame since I’m using WordPress for my author website, too.

I solved the problem. Instead of finding the number, I found out that Goodreads offers a widget service where they give you code, and I copied, paste, tweaked a little, and finally, I could have my goodreads showing at the blog. Thanks.

The only problem with silvia’s solution is that it won’t update your widget when you make a change to your bookshelf on goodreads. If I’m trying to display my “Read” bookshelf, I can get the widget to display it by deleting some of the script code, but then it loses the ability to see changes to the bookshelf. If just becomes a static display in the widget, never changing.

Oh, nooo, I see the problem. Oh, well, I guess GR doesn’t have a good way for authors to add widgets to WordPress.
