Google WebFontConfig
-
When using Twenty Sixteen (or most themes) at least one reference to Google Fonts is added to the website code. I can’t see any way to remove this, either by using a setting or via custom code in a plugin.
Here is an example of the code: https://gist.github.com/DannyCooper/48448cbb5b0037dddec0b9c79f63999d
Is there any way to remove the reliance on Google Fonts? Either with a setting or custom code?
This plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-remove-google-fonts/) works for fonts enqueued using the regular methods (wp_enqueue_style) but doesn’t work for the fonts added by WordPress.com
Thanks!

Hi there,
Is this in regard to remaining in GDPR compliance?
If so, we are aware of this ruling but are unable to give you advice about whether or not it applies to you and your own use of Google Fonts on your site. If you have concerns about your own GDPR compliance you should consult an attorney.
It is not currently possible to disable Google Fonts that are loaded via the Google CDN for your site. If it is important to you that your site does not provide Google Fonts from the CDN, there are two options:
1. Use one of the following block themes, which bundle the fonts locally, instead of sourcing them from Google directly:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/bundled-fonts
2. Upgrade to the WordPress.com Business plan, which allows more control over fonts on your site.
As an alternative, you may also wish to consider a self-hosted WordPress.org site. Our guide explains the differences between WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org to help you decide which one is best for you.

Hope this helps.
