gravatar profile public??????

  • Unknown's avatar

I just saw on another site I just happened to go to that I have a GRAVATAR profile. I obviously want to delete it because I had no idea that it would make it seem like I have a gravatar account to the world, with all my contact info on it.

I went to Gravatar and it said I could make the profile private, but each time I tried to sign in with WordPress it wouldn’t let me. Nothing happens. The page refreshes as if I didn’t press ‘SIGN IN WITH WORDPRESS’ and I tried multiple browsers, deleted the cache cookies etc etc. I just really want this awfula nd unwanted public profile deleted ASAP.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

A WordPress.com account is a Gravatar account (and vice versa), but you don’t need to include any information on your public Gravatar profile if you don’t wish.

Please make sure that you are first logged in to the correct username account here and then click this https://en.gravatar.com/profiles/edit/#contact-information

Use the X link next to each item to remove it from your contact information.

Alternately after being logged in with the correct username account, you should be able to hide your profile from your profile page.

If you still need more help with that, please post back here. If you wish Staff assistance with this issue, please add the MODLOOK tag to the tags section in the sidebar of this forum thread.

How do I remove the photo?
Where in the user agreement have I agreed to you spreading my photo with Gravatar?

In order to log in to Gravatar I have to approve the following:
“Howdy! Would you like to log in to Gravatar using your WordPress.com account?

    This will allow Gravatar to:

View user information data such as username, name, email, blog and Gravatar.”

Which of course I don’t want to. If I press deny, I cannot login. How to I remove my Gravatar?

If you read my earlier reply, you’ll see that a WordPress.com account is a Gravatar account. You’ve already provided WordPress.com with that information (username, name, email, blog and Gravatar) when you signed up here.

I did read your post, but considering the text that comes up when I try to log in to Gravatar, using my WordPress login, it seems as they (Gravatar) do not already have access to all my WordPress data. If they did, why would I have to grant them the right again?

    Hi Christina,

WordPress.com and Gravatar are both Automattic services, and any information about your WordPress.com account is covered by our privacy policy:

    Privacy Policy

You can also read more about WordPress.com accounts and Gravatar if you’d like.

Once you’re logged in to Gravatar, you can go to the My Gravatars page to remove your Gravatar photo and you can make your Gravatar profile private if you wish.

    Hi Rachelmcr,
Thanks for trying to help me.
I might be stupid, but I cannot from the privacy policy understand that wordpress/automattic reserves the right to spread my personal information (i.e. a photo) – please guide me so I can learn for the future.
I felt force to grant Gravatar access to my personal info (again, if they already had it, why did they ask me to grant it again), and have now removed the photo there (and just hope that they have not already spread it too far).
I also found that I under wordpress/security/connected application could disconnect Gravatar’s access to my wordpress account which I have now done.
I have also hidden my Gravatar profile (albeit it took a while to find all the clicks I had to make in order to find the “hide” button).

You do not seem to be clear on the fact that a wordpress.com account is a gravatar account as Automattic owns both. Perhaps reading this will be helpful Gravatar and WordPress.com, Together Forever.
