Hacked, Followed by 500 Error in trying to fix it.
-
Recently our site was hacked and our articles tab of our website had been switched to include articles about CBD products rather than our typical architecture blogs. Additionally my websites wp-login page no looks like a lank white page with links along the left side. All links bring us to 403 unavailable errors. Without my usual way to adjust pages I started looking at the pages in our companies ftp system. When looking at the references in the articles page’s code I noticed that index.php was referenced. I attempted to replace the index.php file in our ftp system with an older back up version, but all that did was make all pages of our website show a HTTP Error 500. Since then I have fiddled around with the files and have had no luck with fixing the 500 error. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. If I am in the wrong spot or anything along those lines please let me know.

Hi @smallstudioassociatesabfee5d518, sorry to hear it!
Is there any chance you can restore a backup? If so, I’d recommend getting a backup of what you’ve got now before any further steps, then restoring the most recent working backup you have.
That may be your best bet at this point. There are also some tips here:

Your host should be able to help with one of those options.
Going forward, these forums are actually for the sites hosted here on our servers, but there is another forum for the free WordPress software. You can find that here:

Thank you for your response I am currently attempting an overwrite using some previous back up files we had.
I will visit the pages you provided and will move to the other forums in the future.
Thank you again.

You bet. I hope the restore goes well. Once you have a clean site, be sure to secure it using one or more of the methods recommended in those articles.
Cheers!
