have set up SMTP provider but I can't receive email from my wp.com website
-
Hi,
i’ve
set up SMTP via sendin blueit works well to send out newsletters.
but (and i’ve lost most of November to sudden ill health – hence the time lag) that i dont’ get emails from wp.com
for example, i used get an email if someone filled out contact form – now, i don’t get notified
for example, someone comments on a post, and i no longer get email notificaiton
i’m assuming i’ve done something wrong. but searching just brings up unhelpful results
any thoughts
i know my email on wp.com is correct
i know i can send test emails via sendinblue
i know sendinblue happily sends out newsletters
any thoughts?
many thanks in advance

Hey there,
for example, i used get an email if someone filled out contact form – now, i don’t get notified
Can you clarify that’s with berrybunch.home.blog ? Or is it with another site that isn’t hosted here?
If it’s with a site that isn’t hosted here, please ask your host to check their exim localdomains and remotedomains settings. Basically if you set your email to something not on their server, but your server doesn’t recognize that, anything that gets sent from your site will just get stuck there.

my apologies – website is http://www.berrybunch.family and it’s a wordpress.com site, hosted by siteground
sorry if this seems like rambling; i’m really not understanding the problem
how things afre working right now
At this moment time, with the sendinblue plugin disabled, or enabled, and having changed MailPoet to use Sendinblue for sending emails, the contact forms are working. I can’t comment on whether we’re getting system emails, or emails for commentssome history
i had previously disabled the sendinblue plugin and tested the contact form on the website. and it worked, immediately. i then re-activated the sendinblue plugin and the contact form stopped working again.when i was checking a few settings (i had a major issue with MailPoet and the issue around CRON. that was sorted by a tech support operative by siteground on my behalf) i noticed that i could happily send test emails via either the MailPoet plugin or SendingBlue plugin
but i had previously set mailpoet to use sendinblue, and that had been changed to using mailpoet instead. once i’d re-enabled “other SMTP” on the MailPoet plugin – eg Sendinblue – my contact form worked again.
at the same time I presume this all started, I also stopped getting notifications about comments on posts via either my wordpress app, or a desktop computer – i had to manually go to a post and see if there was a comment. i’m now getting email notifications to another email address, that is one of the users for our website
the secondary issue is that i was out of it for most of November, due to covid and other health issues which suddenly rose up, so i’m referring to events back in October (i’m just starting to get back on top of our website)
Many thanks
Andy B

Hello Andy,
This site is not hosted with us on WordPress.com but instead Siteground, but using the open source WordPress software at another hosting provider. This is a bit different to a site hosted on WordPress.com. You can read about these differences here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
The domain berrybunch.family is using Siteground name servers, which means the SMTP is controlled at Siteground.
Because we have no control of the DNS settings in that regard, we are unable to help here.
MailPoet and Sendinblue do similar things, and it’s rare but possible that a conflict could be in place even when one of these is deactivated. To rule that out indefinitely it would be a good idea to delete one of these plugins.
I hope this helps.
