having easy sign up for other authors and contributors to contribute posts to my site

I want a blog to keep in touch with members of a local photo club while lock-down stops us meeting, and would like to let some people add their own images and posts. I opted for WordPress because is great for being easy to use for people who are not particularly technical. However before I can set anyone up with author or contributor rights to my site, they need to have their own log-ins to WordPress, but then the process seems to expect them to create their own domain and site, and sends reminders by email that these tasks are incomplete. Is there any way to simplify the sign up process so they don’t need to do anything more technical than create a log in and start writing posts for the existing site that I’ve already created.

  • Hi there,

In order to contribute to a WordPress site you must first be added as a user to the site, and on WordPress.com that requires a WordPress.com username account.

But it’s possible to create an account without having to register your own site. If someone clicks the link to accept the invitation, they should see a link on the account creation screen to continue without making a site. Else they can use this link to create an account first, and then accept the invitation afterwards:

    https://wordpress.com/start/account/user/

For those who already have accounts, you can point them to this page to opt out of any emails they don’t want to receive:
