    Hello, would like to upgrade this site to Pro plan. How hard will this be? I already own a domain name to assigning to it (imcofcapecod.org) and will need to transfer it, but I know that shouldn’t be an issue. If necessary, I can create a new account altogether as this is being built for a our little club. Not sure what’s best here… Can you please help us out with the process? Also, we’ve got a coupon for a 40% discount for hosting plans. I’m hoping this applies to the Pro plan. Can you confirm that you folks are honoring such discount coupons? Thank you very much in advance! :-)

    Hi there,

    Yes I do not see any difficulties in transferring the contents of your site (plus your domain) over to us. To outline the process, what we recommend is:

    • Start a new site on your account (or you can start a new account if it’s something you want to be able to give other folks access to) and skip the option to pick a custom domain, choosing the assigned “wordpress.com” address instead.
    • This will create a new (empty) site with a “staging address” you can use to set your new site up in private.
    • You can use our import tool to grab a copy of the content you have on your existing site and add it to the new site here so you don’t have to start from scratch: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-a-sites-content/
    • Once you have done that, you can make any other changes you need to get the site ready to launch. This is a perfect time to consider a new theme to freshen up the look of the site, for example
    • At the very end, when you are ready to “launch” your new WordPress.com site, you can transfer your domain at that time. This will seamlessly replace your existing site with the new one, so that is what folks see when they visit.

    As far as when to upgrade to the Pro Plan, we recommend doing that when you create the site since you mentioned needing support. This will give you access to our priority WordPress.com Pro support (including live chat M-F) so we can help with any questions you have along the way while you are setting up your site. We can also walk you through the process of transferring your domain step-by-step so that happens as smoothly as possible.
