HELP!! Account recovery

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I need assistance for a free WordPress website which I cannot manage anymore (it is NOT associated to the account I’m writing from, I created this account just to get in touch with the support). Somebody stole my account’s details and changed my password and the associated email address (the user name is still the same), so I cannot enter my account anymore. An unauthorized activity has been made meanwhile and I cannot delete what was made without my permission because I cannot access my account. I don’t have the activation URL anymore but I can tell you the original email address which I used to register my account around 1 year ago and which I still have access to. Can you help me recover my WordPress account?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hi there,

I can tell you the original email address which I used to register my account around 1 year ago and which I still have access to. Can you help me recover my WordPress account?

This is not proof of ownership as anyone can know that email address.

If you aren’t able to provide an email from the email address associated with that account, a transaction ID, or the original activation link, we won’t be able to help you recover the account.

We have a strict policy in place to protect our users from third parties who might try to use our support system to gain access to other users’ accounts.

Anyone can know the old email address associated to the account but there’s only one person who can access that email and prove it is the original address used to create the account: ME. I can provide an email from that email address, you will no doubt be able to see that my account has been created with that address and then somebody else changed it. I can also provide the account’s username, which is still the same. This should be enough as proof of ownership.

  • We cannot accept any of that as proof of ownership. You can only use the email address that’s currently associated with the account to recover access to it.
