Help deleting site that I am not an admin for

I work for a nonprofit organization. Recently, one of our contract employees notified me that, in 2010, someone set up a private WordPress site for participants in one of our programs. He is not the admin of the page and doesn’t know who is and, since I only came on staff in 2016, I don’t know who to contact regarding admin or account recovery. Is there any way to remove the site? Or, at the very least, remove the ‘Author’ role of our contract employee?
