Signed up for the free site to get started. Filled out name, etc., went to publish and it wanted me to do all that over again. Don’t mind a paid account, but want to try things out first.
Goal is a travel side, post pix, videos, text.
Be able to easily edit, add, size type and text blocks and pix. (I’m a graphic artist but know NOTHING about web.
So, need basic, step 1, 2, etc.

Macmanx,
Thx for the start ideas, but feel I need to get started with more basics.Just for VERY BASICS:
How do you create a title: Select a type face and size, figure out how to center, control the leading, color of the font. And size and move the box the type is in.
None of the tutorials address this unless I’ve missed it, and I’ve looked. There must be some control box, wizard, formatting tools or something to do this. All graphic programs have this.
Second,
Place MY picture in place and do similar…. size and move around. (I’ll edit the pix in Photoshop.)With the above two functions, I’d be 90% on the way. Right now, zero.
THANKS MUCH!

Hi there!
How do you create a title: Select a type face and size, figure out how to center, control the leading, color of the font. And size and move the box the type is in.
It depends on where you want to add this title. If it’s going to be a section header inside a post, for example, you can use the Heading block. Alternatively, for regular text, the Paragraph block has the option to change things like text color and size.
Changing the font style/typeface is a site-wide thing, as in, the font you change is applied across the whole site. You can change the font style for the headings and the base text. Depending on which theme you are using, you will need to change the font size in one of two ways. Please check out this page, Custom Fonts, to find out how to do this.
And size and move the box the type is in.
There must be some control box, wizard, formatting tools or something to do this. All graphic programs have this.
It sounds like you may be comparing it to graphic editing software like Illustrator (or maybe even word processing software like Microsoft Word). It’s useful to keep in mind that web editors work differently from graphic editing software or word processing tools.
Here, think of building something with LEGO. You start from the top of the page and use various ‘blocks’ to design your page with content.
Depending on which theme you use, some parts will be the same across the whole site (like the site title, header image, menus, etc. are edited in the customizer). And others in the content area will be different for different pages/posts. That’s what you’ll edit in the post editor using the block editor.
We recommend starting with something like this guide to working with blocks along with the getting started guide to WordPress.com to become familiar with the basics of using WordPress.com to build your site. Once you’ve spent some time with these two pages, I believe you’ll be much more comfortable navigating and building your site on WordPress.com.
There are more theme-specific instructions that you may want to follow. For example, if you’d like to set up your site like the Hever theme’s demo site, you can follow the instructions on this page https://wordpress.com/theme/hever/ (Check out the large image under the
Adding content to your Homepagesection that shows which blocks were used to design the homepage).
