help me pick a theme
-
You have so many and I just cannot wrap my head around all the features of each one to fully understand what they are capable of. Can you suggest a theme that is like the blog I have published here:
kashmirsnow.shutterfly.com
Thanks.
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
Sure! The site kashmirsnow.shutterfly.com is pretty standard, so most of our themes would probably fit. But, I found a few that would be closest to your previous site. Take a look!
Twenty Twelve:

ok thank you. i am trying to change the layout mid page. is that possible? I want to start out with one full page spread. sprinkle in some pictures (with text flowing around them) change to a two column spread. i dont know how to get rid of the search box, the archive list and the meta box (whateverrr that is). help?
-
Hi there,
The search box is a part of the theme. However, you can remove that if you edit CSS. Please go to Appearance > Customize in your Dashboard and remove the informational text. Then add this:
form#searchform { display: none; }Click save and that will remove the search bar.
It looks like you were able to remove the archive and meta widgets.
As for the layout, I’m not quite sure what you mean, but it wouldn’t be possible to change the layout to 2 columns. Here’s the support guide page to the Twenty Eleven theme:
https://wordpress.com/themes/twentyeleven/
As for adding images, that would be possible. Here’s a support guide for adding images:
If you want to create a static front page, that would be possible. First, create the page by going to Pages > Add new in your Dashboard. After you have published that page, make sure you also have a page for your posts. You can title it Blog, Posts, etc. (whatever you want). Publish that and then go to Settings > Reading in your Dashboard. At the top select A static page and set the first page as your Front page, and your Blog/Posts/etc page as your Posts page.
It will look something like this:
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Thank you for your continued support. There are so many details in designing this blog, it is bewildering. Perhaps I could point you to an example, and you (with your infinitely greater familiarity of wordpress) could say “Aha, you want theme XYZ!” Well, look at this page:
http://www.kasson.com/galleries/index.php
It’s the gallery page of a greater blog site. I dont want the greater blog site, I just want something that has a bunch of gallery pages like this page. However, I do not want a grid of tiles like on this page. Rather, I want to have each tile as a separate object in a blog post. Clicking on a tile would take the viewer to the gallery of that tile. Much like what happens when you click on a tile in Kasson’s blog. The idea is that I want a picture in a blog post to be a lead in to a collection of images. It doesnt necessarily have to be a gallery. Maybe if a person clicks on an image in a blog post it could fill the page like in flickr, for example, here:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/39622719@N00/clicking on any image puts you onto a ‘merry-go-round’ where the page is a full image and there are arrows on each side of the image that allow navigation. Clicking the ‘close’ box returns you to the flickr stream. But in my case, clicking the close box would return the reader to the blog post.
Sorry for being long winded, but I appreciate your patience and am just trying to communicate the big picture of what I am aiming for, instead of bombarding you with minutiae.
Thanks, I look forward to your suggestions.

I have tried to do something with a sidebar widget called ‘gallery’. But when i hit the ‘choose images’ button, nothing happens. I thought that i could have several gallery widgets, but i cant even get one to work!

Hi there,
What you can do is add a gallery to your blog post. Here’s a support guide on adding that:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/
This should function similarly to what you wanted to create.
Hope that works! and no, I started way before that. Just started the blog at that time.

Ok, I got gallery working, thanks. I add media and the contents of the gallery is represented by a collection of all the images in it.
But can i have only ONE image represent a gallery? In other words, I have 4 images in a gallery but i only want one image showing in a blog post. When the user clicks on that image, it shows the gallery in the usual carousel view.?
Also, is it possible to specify how the images are put together in the mosaic, when i specify mosaic view for the gallery?
I want to make a filmstrip (that is scrollable) and when the user clicks on an image in the filmstrip, the full image is shown above the filmstrip.
Thank you.

Hi there,
Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be possible to have one image represent an entire gallery. The gallery feature we provide would show all the images within a gallery. However, what you can do is set it to Slideshow. Then, it would focus on one image at a time like this:
In order to do this, edit your Gallery, and set the type to Slideshow as seen here:
As for the mosaic, you can play around with the order of your images and that does change the mosaic. But, it would be difficult to specifically state exactly where you want each image considering the width/height of each image.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!

No we don’t have any features like that on WordPress.com. If you see sometime similar on WordPress.com let me know and I can see what we can do.
-
Tnx. I guess I’d like to cancel my trial then. I gave a cc#. How do I cancel so I don’t get charged?
-
Hi there,
I’d be glad to. I see that you added the domain: fotostefo.com.
Would you like to completely cancel this as well? Please note, that this is different from other upgrades and is stated during the purchase process.
Canceling a domain at this time means you completely give up ownership of the domain. There is no guarantee the domain will become available to re-register after cancellation.
You are welcome to keep your domain with us and update the nameservers to point to another hosting provider by following this guide:
After 60 days from the date of purchase or registrant contact information change, you may also transfer your domain to another registrar by following this guide:
If you would like to completely cancel your ownership of the domain name, please reply to confirm.

Yes I would like to cancel the domain as well. I thought that the cost of the domain was covered by the premium subscription. I do not remember being charged for it but can you please refund any and all charges. Thank you for helping me try wordpress. But as you can see from my questions, I have more pictures than words. Maybe you could start a companion site called ‘photopress’ that caters more to the visual arts (filmstrip indexes, full bleed layouts, individual pic callouts, etc)

No you were not charged for the domain as it is a part of the Premium upgrade.
I have canceled everything, and you were not charged.
Thanks for the suggestions!
