HELP – My accounts are mucked up

  • Unknown's avatar

    I wrote to WordPress about this over a year ago, to help me get this fixed; only one contact bothered to inquire if I had been put right, but wasn’t able to help.

    Simply put, I maintain a parish website that was created in the ‘ads-included’ version and I paid $120 for an upgrade to get rid of the ads, increase capacity and enable creativity in presentation.

    I goofed up the upgrade and now appear to have two sites, one ‘.org’ and one ‘.com’. One says I am in credit, the other that I am in debt. I just want to get it sorted so there’s one url, one account, and one access. And I don’t understand whether I should be .org or .com.

    The following was noted by ‘wpbeginner’:
    ‘Both of your sites are on WordPress .com – stmarkscarterton .org is your active site and, if you have anything on stmarks2019.wordpress .com, it is not visible to the public (it has a coming soon page visible). I suspect that, when you tried to upgrade, you actually purchased a new site or upgraded a site that is not in use (stmarks2019.wordpress.com) instead of upgrading your existing site (stmarkscarterton .org). I might be wrong but what it seems you need to do is talk to WordPress .com and ask them for a refund if possible on stmarks2019.wordpress .com and then upgrade stmarkscarterton .org instead.’

    I’ve also spent ages finding a place where I could send this information to. It is not where I expected; ie ‘wordpress.com support’. Fortunately I have now found this space to write of my problem. Contact us does not offer the option.

    Please can you help me, so I can get on with building a better site, and not be afraid I am building it on the wrong platform.

  • Hi there,

    @wpbeginner
    was spot on. So, you have two sites under your WordPress.com account – stmarkscarterton.org, which has the Personal Plan connected to it along with the domain subscription for custom domain. Then, you have stmarks2019.wordpress.com, which has the Premium Plan connected to it along with an unused domain credit.

    stmarks2019.wordpress.com has no content and appears to have been mistakenly created as wpbeginner mentioned. So, I would suggest moving the Premium Plan from stmarks2019.wordpress.com to stmarkscarterton.org and remove the Personal Plan from that site. Both plans are outside the refund window, but at least you can use the better Plan on your dotorg site the remainder of the subscription.

    Please let us know if that sounds like a good plan, and we’ll make the changes to your site on our end.

    To prevent confusion moving forward, you can permanently delete stmarks2019.wordpress .com, by following this guide:

    Delete a Website

    Or, if you want to hide your site instead, you can use the following guide to make your site private so only you and other members of the site can view it when logged in:

    Thanks!
