Help! My website has disappeared!

  • Unknown's avatar

My domain has expired, and my domain provider has on-sold it. I have since had to register a new domain, and when I logged into WordPress to redirect my website, I found that my website had disappeared from my account.

    Please help!

The site I need help with is [visible only to staff] (email visible only to moderators and staff). It is not hosted by WordPress.com or connected with Jetpack. This site is not linked to my WordPress.com account.

  • Hi @riverdal, I’m sorry your domain was lost! That happened to me once a long time ago, and it’s a hassle for sure.

I did some digging with the domain you mentioned. That site was never hosted with us, which would explain why you don’t see it when logging in here. Here’s the difference between the free WordPress software and our managed services:

I’m hoping you still have hosting — can you contact them and ask for help?

If you can log into hosting, you’ll want to set your site to an accessible domain (you can buy a new name or use a temp address if they’ll give you one.) Here’s how to change the site address when you can’t log into WordPress. Please ask your host for help with this too:

Then if you need more help, use the correct forums here:

If you don’t have hosting anymore, I’d still recommend contacting them just to see if they have a backup. You might check your files to see if you have a backup too. If not, you’d be welcome to start fresh here.
