Help needed with post photos and featured photo

    Hi,
I’m having some trouble getting my photos to look uniform on my blog posts. They don’t look uniform and have the same length and width. When I try to edit them in the media editor, I am unable to reach the dimensions required and the post usually looks too small (because of the automatic calculation).

I am just wondering if there is some best practice for uploading photos that I am unaware of. What size photo should I be starting with?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • What is the URL of the site with the problem?

  • Hi there,

Your site is not hosted on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at Bluehost.com. We’re only able to help with sites hosted on our servers at WordPress.com.

You can find help with your version of WordPress at:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums

But to answer your question, in general it’s best to size images to the dimensions you want them to appear on your site using photo-editing software on your computer before you upload them to the media library. The media editor built into WordPress only allows for very basic editing, as you’ve discovered.

The ideal size would depend on your theme – most themes have a maximum width at which they can display images inserted inside the content area of a post or page, and that should be documented in the support pages of the specific theme you’re using, or else you can contact support for your theme directly to ask about that.

Otherwise, around 1500px wide is a good size to use, as that should be sufficient for any theme that displays images at full-width – most computer monitors won’t show an image wider than that at full size.

Thank you very much for the help :) I will check the theme support and try to find the recommended dimensions.
