Help recovering my wordpress.com and gravatar.com accounts.

I need help trying to recover my original wordpress.com and gravatar.com accounts that I have had for well over 10+ years. I have my username and password but I cannot get past the 2FA part because I do not have access to the email or phone number I used to set up those accounts. I had to ditch them suddenly because of identity theft.

I also do not have any old receipts or recovery codes. I would really hate to lose access to those since they are so old and stuff.

Can a support agent turn off 2FA on that account so I can access it and update my correct information? I can do an authenticator app instead of 2FA if that can happen as well. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

It is incredibly difficult to be locked out of a decade-old account, especially after dealing with identity theft. Because 2FA is designed to be the final security barrier, support agents cannot simply ‘turn it off’ via a forum request. However, since you still have your original username and password, your best path is to fill out the Manual Account Recovery form. In the ‘Additional Information’ section, explain the identity theft and provide ‘knowledge-based’ proof that a hacker wouldn’t know—such as the city where you created the account, old email addresses you used before the theft, or details about private drafts. Once a Staff member verifies these non-public details, they can manually disable the 2FA or update your email so you can set up a more secure Authenticator App to prevent this from happening again.

@james3265166 Where would I find this form? The form I tried previously won’t let me submit it unless I provide a previous purchase receipt or provide the original confirmation link when I first created the account, which as I explained, I do not have those.

    Hi there!

The form James mentioned is likely this one: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

I’ve also reached out to you directly at your current email address to gather a bit more information based on your situation.

Let’s continue from there so we can keep everything in one place and move this forward.
