I work for the business represented by mrpmachineshop.wordpress.com. The account was created many years ago by a current employee who doesn’t remember which email was used on the account. We cannot access the account with the recovery tool as we have no prior receipts, activation codes, nor 2FA setup to satisfy the automated recovery requirements. We do control the business and its domain name and would like assistance either recovering access or removing the outdated site.

    Hi @robb10fa1b2723f,

Thanks for reaching out. Since this is about account access and possibly removing a site, we can’t verify ownership or collect private account details here in the public forums.

The best next step is to use the WordPress.com Account Recovery form:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

You can also find more details here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/

Our team will need some way to verify ownership of the WordPress.com account before they can help with access or site removal. The usual accepted options are things like a transaction ID from a WordPress.com purchase, the original activation link/key, or a two-step authentication/backup code:

    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/verify-ownership/

If the person who originally created the site is still with the business, it would be worth asking them to check any old email addresses they may have used for WordPress.com emails, receipts, or the original activation email. They can also try the password reset page using any possible email addresses or usernames.

Just to set expectations, owning the business or domain name by itself may not be enough to access or remove a WordPress.com site. For security reasons, our team needs to confirm account ownership first.

If you believe the site violates WordPress.com policies, you can also report it here:

I cannot make any progress with the account recovery page as we do not have any WordPress.com emails, receipts, or the original activation email and the account was created before 2FA was introduced. The original creator still works with us and has checked their email accounts they think could be associated and and turned up nothing.

Is there a non-public way we can discuss with the support team? I can supply a variety of possible email addresses along with other creator information and domain info.

    Hi  @robb10fa1b2723f,

In your case, It is recommended to submit a form to our Account Recovery team through the previously shared link: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery.

It isn’t necessary to provide the email, password, 2FA, receipts or transactions for us to contact you through our account recovery form. You can leave those fields unchecked, and provide the team with any additional details in the box right above the submit field.

Once you do, our support team will get back to you and proceed from there, so we can confirm your ownership and further assist you.

If I don’t provide one of the above, the recovery page will not let me proceed.

Thank you for clarifying that. Because our online recovery form is automated, it does strictly require at least one of those verification items to allow you to proceed with a submission.

Please note that for strict security reasons, if we ultimately cannot verify ownership of the account, we will not be able to grant direct access to it or delete it. However, we do have alternative options available to protect your business branding online:

    • Site Privacy: If the website contains personal information, you can request that our support team set the site to private so the public and search engines can no longer access it.
    • Starting Fresh: If you want to build a brand new site for the business, you can always create a new WordPress.com account at any time.

For a full breakdown of our policies when account verification details cannot be provided, please review our guide on what happens if ownership cannot be established.

Please reach out to us at help@wordpress.com with your site details so we can take this conversation to a private, secure channel and see how we can best assist you!
