help with an existing website

I have been asked to redesign an existing website. I am better at starting from scratch and working with sites that dont involve complicated back end user interface. I was wondering what protocols you have in place to help people like me and walk me through the existing site and answer questions and give me information I need to move forward. Are there help packages I can pay for as I go along without having to dedicate to a whole year contract?

It’s a bit hard to answer you without knowing more about what you actually want to build.
What is the URL of the current site? Is it hosted on WordPress.com? Using WordPress at another host? Using a completely different CMS?
