  Hi, I am creating a site for a women’s refuge and need a ‘hide this page’ button so there is no evidence of the site stored in cookies, and that the page can be hidden quickly if necessary. Does wordpress have a function for these? Thanks,

  Hi –

  Yes, you can take a site “offline” with a simple settings change. But, it won’t be removed from Google and other search engines for some time. It takes a while for it to fall out of their index.

  A better option might be to set up a private site in which only approved members can view. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

  With this option Google would never even index it in the first place.
