Home page blank when editing
-
I can no longer edit my home page. I can see the page but as soon as I click to edit, I am presented with a blank Hello World Template. This started after I tried adding a page. I have since removed the pages and no change.

Hi there,
Usually when an issue like this occurs, it can be traced to an expired (or broken) login auth cookie stored on your local web browser. It looks like you are using Google Chrome as your browser, so with this in mind I would like you to try the following
- clear your cache and cookies based on the steps google recommends here: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050
- Also make sure you are not blocking any “3rd party cookies” as explained in that guide as well.
- If you continue to have loading issues after completing those steps, I would like you to try another browser instead, like Firefox. Are you able to proceed if you use a browser other than Chrome?
Thanks for the additional info!

Thanks for the response. I gave your suggestions a try clearing cache an cookies as well as installing and trying Firefox and I am still having the same issue. Any other suggestions?

@moreballoonsplease it looks like maybe you trashed the front page. Can you head to https://wordpress.com/pages/trashed and restore each of those?
Then, choose one for your front page:
https://wordpress.com/support/pages/front-page/As for the others, you can always re-trash if needed. Please bear in mind, the trash does get emptied periodically, so if you want to keep a page but not publish it, use the draft status instead of trash.

Also, if you still run into issues after that:
I can see the page but as soon as I click to edit, I am presented with a blank Hello World Template.
Could you get a screenshot of what you’re seeing?

Hi Supernovia,
Sorry for the delayed response. The pages I had trashed were only trashed because I thought one of them may have caused the issue. I tried to restore all of them anyways and made no difference.
Below is the simple home page I created.

This is what I get after clicking edit in the top right of the page..

Hi there!
Thanks for the screenshots! That actually seems expected. May I know what exactly are you trying to edit on the homepage? For example, are you trying to edit the menus? If you’re trying to edit the actual homepage content, what exactly are you expecting to see?
I ask because your homepage is set to display the latest posts from your site. So when you open the homepage editor, you see a Query Loop block that adds the latest posts to the homepage of your site. If you publish new posts from My Site → Posts, they will show up on the homepage.
If you wanted to create a static page, you’d need to do the following:
- Click My Site → Pages.
- Either click Add New Page to create a new page or edit one of the existing pages.
- Once you’ve added custom content to the page that you want to set as the homepage, make sure it’s published by clicking the “Publish” button near the top right corner.
- Follow the steps here to set the newly published page as the homepage of your site.
Please try the steps above and let us know how it goes.
