Home page doesn’t match editor

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello! I edited my entire site in the editor but when i go to my ‘home’ page in my pages it is a blank template page. Also, when i post the URL to my home page, the preview text is the copy from the template site. This seems odd? Like a glitch. Would appreciate help.

  • Hi there,

I can see that you have edited the homepage template directly in the site editor, and in this case it’s OK to do that, and it’s expected that the page you see here would be blank: https://wordpress.com/page/madisonareayoungadults.com/6

In this case what is important is that you have the correct template set here, so that all the contents of the template show on the homepage when people visit:

Depending on the theme you use, you can also see cases where the template is blank, more of a “holding container” if you will. And in that event there is a special block in the template that “pulls in” text that you add in the page editor.

Either method is fine, though I can understand why it’s confusing at times. We go into greater depth about the differences between the page editor and the site (template) editor in our recent webinar here:

    About this question:

I’m not sure I’ve understood the issue here. Can you share a bit more about what you are seeing there? Can you tell us how you get that result so we can retrace your steps and see if we get the same? Thanks for the additional info!
