  I would like my home page shows brief summaries of the most recent posts and updates when new posts go up

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  It looks like you already have your front page set up to show your most recent posts. And yes, it will update automatically when you make a new post.

  If you do not want to chow the full post text on the front page, you’ll want to make use of the “more” tag:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
