Home page layout

I am unable to figure out how to get my sidebar with my widgets to show on my home page. I don’t know if it is just because of the theme I have (Visual) or if there is a way to do it. Right now it is only able to be seen on my other pages.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

The Visual theme you’re using only displays the sidebar on single posts and pages, not on the home page.

Most themes that feature images in tiles like that on the home page don’t have a home page sidebar. I looked around in our theme showcase, and the closest theme to Visual that I could find with a sidebar is Pinboard. You might also want to browse through the showcase to see if there’s another theme with a home page sidebar that catches your eye.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

OK, another quick question; with the Visual layout, on the example of it, it shows that the posts on the home page as only a summary, and they are in evenly laid out rows. Mine shows the whole post on the home page, and I can’t seem to change that to make it look like the example. I have it set to summary and not full text.. but that must not be how to do it because nothing changed.

Sure thing. The summary/full text setting doesn’t change the appearance of your blog — that only changes your blog’s feed (how much of the post is emailed out to your followers or shown in the Reader).

To change what shows on your blog, you can use the More Tag. In each post, you can add the more tag to create the “Continue reading” link. Everything before the tag will show up on your blog’s front page, and visitors can click through to read the rest of the post.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that!
