my site is not recognising the home page as the home page! It is treating it as a standard page, so if someone just browses the url, they see the blog page instead of the main site home page. Also the actual blog page does not look like the blog page that is being displayed as the home page…

Can you share the URL of your website?
I’m not seeing any WordPress.com sites associated with the user account you are posting from. This frequently means that you have a site using the open source WordPress software, but hosted elsewhere.
