Home page v site identity

I created a site identity, assumed this would be the home page but clearly it isn’t. I’ve stripped out all that was on the shell of the home page but still get a title (now says Data Strategy) and a box beneath which I don’t want. How do I make the site identity the home page?
The site I need help with is [visible only to staff] (email visible only to moderators and staff).

I’m afraid I don’t understand what you’re asking. What exactly are you speaking of when you refer to “site identity”?
If you’re referring to the Site Identity section in the Customizer, that’s where you set the title for your entire site, and has no effect on the content of individual pages on the site, or which page is set as the front page.
Any published page on your site can be set as the front page. You’ll find the option to do that at Appearance ->Customize ->Homepage Settings:
