  How can I permanently place a post on the home page by itself? I don’t want recent posts on the homepage, just one particular post living on the home page by itself.

  Hi there,

  On what site are you working? The account you’re using to post here does not own any sites on WordPress.com.

  If you’re using the open source WordPress software at another host, please ask for help from the WordPress.org community at https://wordpress.org/support/forums instead.

  That said, it would make more sense just to set a static page as the front page instead, and add your content to that page rather than to a post.
