Homepage no edit tools

Hi, I am new to wordpress and I would like to ask for support regarding my wp site. Initially, I’ve set up the theme, the image says ‘active’ but won’t display. Did research and followed how to do it. Finally, I have placed an image on my homepage, unfortunately, the page setting lost its format. There are no edit buttons for fonts colors, background, and size on the edit homepage. BTW, this is published but not yet connected to a domain. One more thing, ‘&’ keeps appearing on the homepage in the middle of my title, even if I keep on editing it when I click on view site it remains unedited. Hope you can assist me the soonest please as I need for my class. Thank you very much.

Are you wanting the front page to have the same format as the Hever Theme demo?:

If so, there are step by step instructions on the page from the above link that helps you with that setup. You should be able to change the color and background in the Customizer:
