hosting an existing domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I just upgraded to wordpress.com and mapped an existing domain to my account. I read through your support site and want to make sure that I understand things properly. My assumption is that I still need to pay to host my domain elsewhere, correct? WordPress does not take incoming transfers, so I’ll need to continue to host the domain elsewhere and just update the name servers to point to wordpress – or am I not understanding this correctly?

    Thank you

    Hi there,

Yes, you’ll need to keep your domain registered with your existing domain registrar. (However, you’ll only need to pay your domain registrar for the domain registration — you don’t need to pay for separate hosting, since we host your site here at WordPress.com.)

The domain mapping that you set up here at WordPress.com will allow you to use your domain with your WordPress.com site as long as it’s still registered at another domain registrar (since we can’t accept incoming domain transfers.)

Please let me know if you have any other questions about that. :)
