Hosting Issue

I’ve just bought a domain but it’s hosted with a site other than WordPress, I’m just going to use it for blogging. Am I better off having my hosting on WordPress or elsewhere?

It depends on what you are wanting to get out of your site. Here is a list of differences between hosting with WordPress.com as opposed to going the self-hosted route:
However, don’t let your decision be solely based on the fact that your domain isn’t hosted with WordPress.com. You can either keep the domain hosted where it currently is and map it to your WordPress.com site:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Or, you can transfer the domain and have both your domain and site hosted at WordPress.com:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
