Hosting on WordPress

Hi! I’m trying to start a business through WordPress, and trying to unravel what I truly need to begin a site. I’m looking at buying a domain name and trying to figure out hosting, since I’m familiar with WordPress and want to use it to launch my business. Does upgrading to WordPress Premium through a purchased domain name (instead of a .wordpress.com URL) cover purchase of a domain name and hosting? Are there any other fees or prices that I need to factor into the bare-bones startup cost of my business if I use WordPress? Thanks for your time!

  • Hi there,

On WordPress.com, hosting is free. If you buy a plan you’re only paying for extra features and support, not for hosting. You had hosting the moment you created your free address, cassandrabarthuly.wordpress.com

All our plans include a free domain name, so if a domain is all you want for now, the Personal Plan will be sufficient. You can see My Site ->Plans for all the other features included in the different plans.

What type of business are you trying to start? If you’re starting an online store you’ll need an ecommerce plugin like WooCommerce.com, and that can only be used on the Business Plan. Also note that while WooCommerce is free, you might need some premium extensions to that plugin, depending on what you want to do. Other ecommerce plugins might also have their own subscription costs which you’d pay directly to the plugin developer, not to us.
