How can I change the order of link categories?

The only way to order link categories appears to be alphabetically, which is a problem for me, because I would like to prioritize the categories differently.
I’ve tried adding numbers (e.g. 1 – Category Z, 2 – Category S, 3, Category W, etc.) but I find that aesthetically displeasing.
Is there a way to order my link categories other than alphabetically or by number?

If you need to show your categories in a certain order, you can build a Custom Menu then adding a Custom Menu Widget instead.
