How can I check if a domain name is taken?

  How can I check to see if a domain name is taken? I am thinking of possibly upgrading to my own domain but want to change it from what it is currently. Is there a way I can check to see if the blog names I am thinking of are already owned?

  Do a Whois – most registrars let you search for names or just try and visit the domain name you are thinking about
