How can I define a category for a post as I am composing it ?
-
I have a free WordPress.com site, and I am trying to figure out if there is a way such that when I am composing a post using the quick post (The “New Post” button at the top of the screen that brings down a panel that covers half the vertical space) I can define what category to set the post to be filed under. So far the only way I am able to do so is by posting it under the default category and then manually going back and then setting the category. I can set up tags while I am composing, but I would much rather be able to set the category.

There’s an issue with creating posts on the front page of WordPress.com that will not be fixed until the next upgrade. Do not create posts here > http://wordpress.com/#!/post/
Instead I recommend that you ONLY create posts here > Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
Adding Categories via the Categories Module
You can assign and/or add new categories to posts before you publish them using the Categories module to the right of the post editor: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#adding-categories-via-the-categories-module
