How can I eliminate links in the footers of my web pages?

  All of my website pages show a footer including two links (Customized Twenty Twelve., Blog at WordPress.com.) and a non-linked smiley face. How can I get rid of these?

  Can the links be eliminated if I use a different theme? How about if I make my own theme? Or do all WordPress-hosted web sites have these ads?
